The Fundamentals of Industrial Energy Assessment and the Use of Energy Analysis and Diagnostic Tools

Companies in China Learn the Fundamentals of Industrial Energy Assessment

At two 2-day workshops (July 18-19 and July 21-22, 2011) 63 trainees from 42 Chinese companies were introduced to the fundamentals of industrial energy assessment and the use of energy analysis and diagnostic tools from the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Industrial Assessment Center. The comprehensive training materials were prepared in collaboration with DOE's Lawrence Berkeley and Oak Ridge National Laboratories, and the workshops were held at the Institute for Sustainable Communities' EHS Academies in the Jiangsu and Guangdong provinces. Each workshop included practical classroom exercises plus a factory assessment to utilize the knowledge learned.? During the workshop, the trainees were introduced to a variety of diagnostic equipment provided by U.S. companies. Facilitating the emergence of such energy managers and assessors is one of the objectives of ISC's Partnership for Climate Action program. The industrial sector consumes 70% of China's total energy use, so conducting energy assessments is critical to achieving energy efficiency in China, which is the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases.
