ISC Hosts Training for Municipal Government Officials on City-Level GHG Accounting

On July 30-31, 2011, Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) hosted a 2-day training workshop on creating a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the department directors of Xiaolan township government (Guangdong Province). The GHG inventory is the fundamental step of a larger initiative to assist Xiaolan develop its own low carbon action plan. The training was led by the Institute for Sustainable Communities, the Xiaolan Sustainability Service Center and the Guangzhou Academy of Energy Testing and Inspection (World Resource Institute's local project implementing partner).

The training focused on data collection tools and methods as well as a preview to how to analyze GHG emissions data through scenario planning tools, i.e. the use of the GREAT and URBAN-RAM tools which were developed by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories for the PCA program. Xiaolan's GHG inventory is scheduled to be published this Fall, which will be one of the first city-level GHG inventories in China.
