Sharing Experience with Hong Kong Counterparts
From August 17-19th, a group of 29 delegates, consisting of government officials, teachers and representatives from three pilot communities--Guanlan Sub-District of Shenzhen, Doumen township of Zhuhai and Sanjiao Township of Zhongshan, went on a study tour to Hong Kong, organized by the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) and Green Point. Environment educators from Hong Kong shared their extensive experience with their Chinese counterparts, inspiring new ideas among the Chinese educators to implement education for sustainable development (ESD) in the communities.
During the three-day tour, the delegates visited Tsuen Wan Environmental Resource Center, Hong Kong Wetland Park, and Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden. They also attended lectures by Circle Kids Workshop and Ms. Mei Ng, Former Chief Executive Director of Friends of the Earth (FOE), studied light pollution status during the "Stars and Hong Kong" tour, and discussed work plans for the next semester. The tour expanded their horizons and taught them about successful practices to encourage student and citizens¡¯ participation in environmental education. The delegates also acquired resources and lessons learned to inform their own communities and the Guangdong province.
